Frequently asked questions

How long does a shade structure last?

The steel frame is built to stay put for the long haul. Shade fabric is the part that eventually shows its age, and how fast depends on sun exposure, the color you choose, and how the canopy is tensioned. Fabric can be replaced on an existing frame, so a re-skin later on is a much smaller job than a new build.

Can you build over existing playground equipment?

Usually, yes. We design around what's already there so columns land clear of equipment, fall zones, and the paths kids run. We'd want to see the layout in person before committing to a design — surfacing and footing depth matter as much as what's above ground.

Will a shade structure hold up in a storm?

That's an engineering question, and it's answered in the footings as much as the frame. Wind loading is part of every design we do, and structures are anchored for the conditions here. In extreme weather, some fabric canopies are designed to be removed seasonally — we'll tell you if that applies to yours.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on your county or city and the size of the structure. Commercial and institutional projects almost always require one. We'll let you know early what your jurisdiction expects so it doesn't become a surprise mid-project.

What sizes do you build?

Anything from a single-post cantilever over a backyard patio to multi-column structures spanning rows of parking spaces or a full playground. Size is driven by the coverage you need and what the site will physically allow.

How much does a shade structure cost?

There's no useful average — a residential patio cover and a school playground canopy are different projects entirely. Price comes down to square footage of coverage, height, column count, site conditions, and fabric choice. Give us the basics about your space and we'll put real numbers to it.
